Enrique: 38 points for safety

Celta Vigo Coach Luis Enrique is targeting 38 points this season, believing that total will be enough to avoid relegation.

After beating Real Betis 4-2 on Friday night, Celta have 22 points from 21 games, the win taking Os Celestes into 13th place.

Betis went in front but Celta recovered to lead 3-1 by half-time and added to the advantage before Betis scored a late consolation in Gabriel Calderon’s first game on the bench.

Enrique predicted at his post-match Press conference that the weekend that followed would be a pleasant one with three points already in the bag.

“I’m doubly happy, for the victory and for the joy we’ve given the fans at home,” he said.

“We will look for two wins in a row next. This is the first step.

“Sometimes you play on Friday and you’re able to have a lovely weekend with your family and you look at the results without the anxiety you feel every other week.

“But what’s most important is getting to 38 points and I think that will be enough to avoid relegation.

“I don’t care if they come at Balaidos or in China.”

Enrique added that he feels the squad’s experience of fighting relegation last year will stand them in good stead for the rest of the current campaign.

“These kinds of games are hard and I think we have a slight advantage because both the fans and the team already lived through a difficult season last year.

“This season I’m afraid we’re going to have another stressful end to the championship.

“I think since we returned from the Christmas break we’ve been more solid, although not tonight.

“But sometimes you have to win games in a different way and the players have given more than at other times.”
