Falcao’s WC hopes dashed

Radamel Falcao looks set to miss the rest of the season and the World Cup after suffering a knee injury.

The Monaco forward was stretchered off in their 3-0 win over Chasselay in the Coupe de France last night.

And initial reports suggest that the Colombian striker could well be out for the remainder of the campaign and the summer’s tournament in Brazil after going down with a cruciate ligament injury.

A statement from the Ligue 1 team read: “"The player was hit in the left knee. [We] must await further tests in the coming days to clarify the exact nature of the injury.”

The injury could also have implications for Falcao’s future, with several reports this month suggesting that Real Madrid could move for the goalscorer.

With this serious setback however, Los Blancos may look to other striking options, most obviously Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez.
