Real Sociedad Coach Jagoba Arrasate has confirmed his interest in signing Valencia’s Sergio Canales.

Arrasate is quoted by Mundo Deportivo as confirming Canales is a player he would love to sign in the winter transfer window, but feels the timing could prove difficult.

“We’re paying attention to his situation,” Arrasate said.

“Canales is the kind of attacking midfielder we’re interested in.

“But there is nothing certain about him coming here yet.”

Mundo adds that it is felt Canales does not fit in to the plan of new Valencia Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi, who prefers a tactical set-up that does not suit the 22-year-old.

Canales’ father and agent, Angel, is said to be meeting with Valencia shortly in order to determine his son’s future.

The player is thought to prefer a move either to the Premier League or a team in Spain pushing for Champions League qualification.

Mundo also notes that Canales’ salary could prove a problem for La Real, who do not want to upset their current wage structure.

Arrasate however believes that as long as the market is open, he has to be on the lookout for new faces.

“Our squad is good and it’s not easy to improve on what he have,” he said.

“But in January we always have to look at what’s out there.”
