Manchester United have been linked with a club record offer for Chelsea’s Juan Mata.
The Daily Telegraph claims United will offer €45m (£37m) to sign the out-of-favour Spain international.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said he wishes to keep Mata at Stamford Bridge despite favouring the likes of Willian, Eden Hazard and Oscar in recent team selections.
Mata, Chelsea’s player of the year for each of the past two seasons, has made only 17 appearances for the Blues this season and has not played since New Year’s Day.
The newspaper claims Mata is growing concerned over his place in the Spain squad for the summer’s World Cup.
He joined Chelsea in 2011 in a €28m (£23.5m) move from Valencia.
United’s current transfer record stands at the €37m (£30.7m) paid to Tottenham for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
Mata was an unused substitute during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over United on Sunday.
