‘Ronaldo will return to England’

Ramon Calderon believes Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Real Madrid and end his career in the Premier League.

The former Real Madrid president told the British Press that Ronaldo will look to return to Manchester United because of the strong bond he has with Sir Alex Ferguson – one that is absent with current Madrid president Florentino Perez.

“I do not think he will finish his career at Real. I feel that one day he will return to England,” Calderon said.

“In Madrid, he is pleased with the city and the fans.

“But I think his relationship with Florentino Perez is not as good as it was with Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

“Ronaldo loves father figures. With Florentino, he does not have that rapport.

“The relationship is bad or actually non-existent. He stays at Real despite the chairman.”

Ronaldo was named the 2013 Ballon d’Or winner on Monday and confirmed this week that Rio Ferdinand had made repeated overtures last summer to convince Ronaldo to re-join United.

Perez however is sure Ronaldo will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for the best years of his career.

“Of course, everyone in the world wants to have Cristiano in their team, certainly,” Perez is quoted as saying.

“It was very important to keep him with us for the image of Madrid and for his level of performance in the years to come. Cristiano was born to play for Real Madrid.”
