“Atletico going for three trophies”

Raul Garcia believes Atletico Madrid have the resources to maintain challenges in three competitions.

The midfielder was on target as Atleti dispatched Valencia 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate to move to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, where they will play either Real Betis or Athletic Bilbao.

But Garcia is not valuing one competition over another and feels Atletico can go the distance in the Copa, the League and the Champions League, where they are to play Milan.

“It is true that it is demanding,” Garcia said after the final whistle against Los Che.

“We are now at a level where cannot lose any points or any game. In the end all our opponents want to win. But we’re feeling okay physically.

“We’re still in line to challenge and we have the staff for all three competitions. That’s what we’re trying to do.”

Garcia rejected the suggestion that playing Valencia in the Copa was more straightforward when compared to the League game that preceded it, against Barcelona.

“Valencia were a tough opponent no matter their form in the League. We gave everything and are pleased with the result.”

On his own goal-scoring prowess, Garcia added: “I’m happy because things are going well.

“We are all responsible for the team’s success and if you score goals, the better.”

Garcia was also asked if he had a preference for Atletico’s next opponents in the cup, Athletic or Betis. “Whoever,” was his concise reply.
