‘We can harm Atletico’

Oriel Romeu believes Valencia can beat Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and reach the next round of the Copa del Rey.

The sides drew 1-1 in the first-leg meeting and with a quarter-final place up for grabs, Romeu is confident Valencia can get a result from Vicente Calderon.

“We demonstrated in the Mestalla we can create chances and harm them,” Mundo Deportivo quotes Romeu as saying.

“We need to keep this going. In the first leg we had five or six clear chances on goal and could have had two or three goals. Now we want to do that at the Calderon.”

Valencia nevertheless needed a stoppage time equaliser from Helder Postiga to keep the tie level after Raul Garcia put Atletico in front, with a series of Thibaut Courtois saves maintaining the lead until late on.

In the League meeting between the sides in December, Atletico ran out 3-0 winners with goals from Raul Garcia and a Diego Costa brace.

Romeu however feels the score line does not reflect the result and insists his side can do better.

“When we played there in the League we went to defend and lost the game.

“But we have the quality to hurt and we showed that in the home leg.

“On Tuesday we can show we can fight anyone. We did it at home and we can do it there.”
