Arbeloa: Jese is brilliant

Alvaro Arbeloa has praised his Real Madrid teammate Jese and urged the youngster to continue in the same vein.

Jese scored the second goal of Madrid’s 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Osasuna on Thursday evening, with Karim Benzema opening the scoring.

A Benzema header put Madrid in front in the 19th minute before Cristiano Ronaldo created Jese’s first goal at the Santiago Bernabeu, although the forward was taken off injured shortly after.

Arbeloa believes it will prove to be the first of many for the forward. “What Jese is doing is brilliant and needs to continue,” the defender said.

“The night was blotted (with Jese’s injury) but this is the beginning of a great story: Jese at the Bernabeu.”

Jese limped off to a standing ovation in the 69th minute and said after the game that he was suffering from nothing more serious than cramp.

“It’s very strong cramp,” he confirmed. “I hope it remains just that. I will see the doctor.

“I’m very happy with what I’m doing. There are great players here and you have to work hard. But slowly things come. I have to sacrifice.”
