Arsenal make new Morata enquiry

Arsene Wenger has asked Real Madrid about signing Alvaro Morata after Theo Walcott was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Arsenal manager hopes to take Morata on loan for the duration of the campaign in an effort to solve his problems in attack, Britain’s Daily Telegraph has reported.

Wenger is not said to be confident of landing the 21-year-old, however, as the newspaper claims Wenger believes he will have to wait until the summer to land a new striker.

Real would need convincing that a loan exit for Morata is in their interest and thus far Coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted no one will leave the Santiago Bernabeu this month.

Walcott suffered a knee ligament injury against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and the prognosis is that the problem will take six months to heal, depriving the England forward of a chance to play at the World Cup.

Morata has routinely been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool said to be maintaining an interest in the player as well.
