Arsenal step up Morata interest

Arsenal are set to double their efforts to sign Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata following Theo Walcott’s injury.

Walcott was carried off in the FA Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur with cruciate ligament damage that will keep him out for at least six months, which also forces him to miss this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

It leaves Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger with just Oliver Giroud and Lucas Podolski as his recognised frontmen and, according to a report in the Daily Mail, he is ready to test Madrid’s resolve to hang on to highly-rated striker Morata.

Los Blancos have already indicated they are reluctant to let the 21-year-old depart the Santiago Bernabeu, either on a permanent or temporary basis, but the Londoners are hopeful a substantial offer could tempt them.
