Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Real Madrid to tie Xabi Alonso to a long-term contract as quickly as possible.
The midfielder has been in a tug-of-war with Los Blancos over a new deal for six months now, with his existing contract set to end in June 2014.
Reports on Friday suggested that the former Liverpool man would leave Santiago Bernabeu over the summer.
However, Marca claimed this morning that the club would sit down with the Spain international and discuss terms.
And the Madrid-based sports daily has revealed quotes attributed to Ronaldo, telling Los Blancos to sign Alonso as soon as possible.
“Xavi is irreplaceable,” he is believed to have said. “There is no one else like him.”
