Casemiro ‘learning from Ronaldo’

Casemiro has backed Cristiano Ronaldo to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or, whilst reflecting on his focus on working hard at Real Madrid.

The Brazilian midfielder signed permanently for Los Blancos in the summer, after an initial year on loan with Real Madrid Castilla from Sao Paulo.

However, speculation has continued over the 21-year-old’s future with the side, amid limited playing time in a competitive midfield.

“I am here very humbly and very focused on the job. I am trying to enjoy this opportunity and am always working hard,” Casemiro has reflected this week to AS.

“In Spain, the football is faster, the grass is shorter. In Brazil, the game is slower. But I have adapted quickly.

“I look thinner than when I first arrived? I lost weight when I arrived here because Spanish football is more dynamic. Within 15 or 20 days being with Real Madrid Castilla I was already at my ideal weight.”

The midfielder was asked of assistant Coach Zinedine Zidane’s influence on proceedings at Valdebebas.

“He is a great professional who helps me a lot. I have great affection for Zizou. His work with Ancelotti has been very good, they understand each other very well and always bring positive things.”

Casemiro also reflected on Ronaldo’s candidacy for the FIFA Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded in the new year.

“Cristiano is an amazing person. He always wants to help everyone, always looks for the good of everyone. He comes to training and is always happy and very professional.

“For me, he has to be the winner of the Ballon d’Or. Being with him is a great learning experience. He is the best in the world.”
