Albertini: Atleti will be tough

Demetrio Albertini has mused on former clubs Milan and Atletico Madrid’s Champions League meeting determined this week.

The two sides have been paired in the Last 16 of the Champions League and will face each other over two legs in February and March next year.

For one former Diavolo midfield legend, who also spent a season on the books at the Vicente Calderon, Los Colchoneros represent a test for the Italians.

“It will be a tough match. Diego Simeone’s side plays good football and the stadium will be very hot,” Albertini has reflected this week.

“As always, you think about the history of a club and that's why we tend to underestimate Atletico, but, at the moment, they are one of the most in-form in Europe.

“If they are in first place with Barcelona and above Real Madrid in the Spanish League then it means that they won’t be easy to deal with.

“However, as always, it depends on how the clubs are doing at the time. Real Madrid could have been a high level opponent, especially for their tradition, but Atletico are not that far behind.”
