Pellegrini: Barca will be concerned

Manuel Pellegrini has asserted that ‘Barcelona will be concerned’ for having drawn his Manchester City side in the Champions League.

The Catalans must face off for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition against the Premier League outfit, coached this year by former Real Madrid and Malaga boss Pellegrini.

“I think Barcelona will be very concerned that they have drawn us. They are not the team of two years ago,” mused Pellegrini to reporters today, in reaction to the Last 16 draw.

“I think it is a beautiful game with two very good teams. For me it would have been exactly the same [whoever we would have drawn] so we will see in February which team arrives in the best [shape].

“It is not only about Messi and Aguero. The two teams have top players and we will see which play better in that round of the Champions League.

“I believe that if you want to win something important then you must beat the top teams. The win against Bayern Munich [in the final round of group games] has given us confidence.

“But [the Barca game] is in February. We will worry about that later. We are improving day by day and we need to continue improving.”
