Andres Iniesta is seen as increasingly close to agreeing a new contract with Barcelona, which will see him commit until June 2018.
The player and club have been in negotiations over a new contract since the summer and, although the 29-year-old was seen to have rejected the first offer on financial grounds, reports in recent days have indicated an agreement is close.
Sport today believe that it is imminent and only minor details and the midfielder’s signature lacking in making the news official.
It is understood that a recent delay has been on the final year of the proposed new contract, with Iniesta and his representatives pushing for a run through to June 2018 and Barcelona believed to be requesting that the final year of the deal remained optional.
A compromise is said to have been reached, with Iniesta apparently agreeing to a deal whereby the 2017-18 option remains in place, but can be achieved through a ‘very manageable number of games’, in a resolution similar to Dani Alves’ contract.
