‘Sevilla will push for first’

Unai Emery has assured that Sevilla will push to win and secure top spot in their Europa League group, and Jose Maria del Nido’s resignation is not a distraction.

The club have seen preparations for their closing fixture in Group H of the competition overshadowed by their President’s confirmation of a seven-year prison sentence, quickly followed by his resignation.

However, for the team’s Coach, focus remains on the pitch and with the same mentality.

“Regardless of the President’s exit, the same people will continue with the same idea. It is a question of us attempting to follow the same path, through our activity,” Emery has reflected this week.

“Our approach in the Europa League is to be first in the group and that means thinking only about winning.

“Besides all this, we continue to take steps towards the aspect of the team improving.”

Opponents Freiburg need to equal or better Slovan Liberec’s result against Estoril to also make it into the Round of 32 with Sevilla.

“Having achieved qualification mathematically, we want to finish first and we do not have to look at the rest of the group.

“We know that the game is important for us, for our goal. What we have to do is think about us, which we come into having already qualified.

“We know that Freiburg will play to win, to look for that qualification, and so the game will be difficult.”
