Ronaldo will attend FIFA gala

Real Madrid have reportedly informed FIFA that Cristiano Ronaldo will indeed be attending the FIFA Ballon d’Or gala in January.

The Portuguese was reported to be intent on shunning the award, and refused to confirm otherwise, after FIFA President Sepp Blatter’s recent remarks that he ‘preferred’ Lionel Messi and that the Madrid man was ‘a commander’ on the pitch.

However, Cadena Cope are running the line this week that Madrid have informed the game’s governing body that the 28-year-old will be present at the Zurich Kongresshaus on January 13, 2014, for the award ceremony.

Madrid are also reportedly making it clear that Ronaldo’s presence is not based on his odds to win a second career Ballon d’Or having shortened in recent weeks.
