Nacho admits to ‘tough’ encounter

Nacho Fernandez conceded that Olimpic Xativa made it ‘tough’ for Real Madrid on Saturday night.

Los Blancos could only draw 0-0 with their lower-league opponents in the Copa del Rey yesterday, and the young forward has admitted that it was a difficult match.

“This was a tough place to play and we knew that it would be,” he told reporters.

“The team fought to the end and now we have to think about the second leg. We dominated in the second half and had clear chances, but it was not to be.

“Ancelotti asked for more intensity in the break. I think the team was doing well, with good positioning, even though we didn’t have many chances, which came in the second half.”

Nacho then responded to questions about Xativa’s artificial pitch.

“We are not used to it. The ball moves slower and the pitch is a bit smaller, but we have no excuses.

“We should have won and now we have to think about the second leg and getting through to the next round.

“Although it will be played at the Bernabéu, there are no favourites.”
