Aparicio hoping for Madrid upset

Olimpic Xativa boss Toni Aparicio is hoping his team overcome the odds and cause a massive upset against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

The Valencian community team currently play in Segunda B Group 3 and Aparicio likens his team’s chances of beating Carlo Ancelotti’s men this weekend to winning the lottery.

“On a sporting level this is the ultimate. It will be an extraordinary occasion and we must live it with great intensity and joy.

“On Sundays here we suffer and suffer, so this is a game to enjoy. To see all the media people is great and the atmosphere has been different ever since the draw was made.

“We know it’s going to be very, very difficult and realistically our chances are very small, but you always hope you can win the lottery when you buy a ticket,” he told AS.

Aparicio is hoping Ancelotti does not rest too many of his best players as he would prefer to be facing some of the world’s top stars, although he is not a fan of the two-legged system.

“I want them all to come because I want to enjoy a game like this. From seeing Cristiano Ronaldo on television to watching him here at close hand would be fantastic.

“Obviously we’ll be hoping to win, but it would be better if it was just one game because the ability to surprise is greater, even more so at a small ground.

“Nonetheless, in the last few years we have seen there have been no great shocks. You can plan for a match with great intensity, but even if you win the first leg they bring all their big guns out for the return and there is nothing you can do about it.

“If they can put four past Galatasaray with 10 men……”
