Sanchez: Copa del Rey also counts

Malaga defender Sergio Sanchez maintains the Costa del Sol club gives equal importance to the Copa del Rey and La Liga.

Bernd Schuster’s men take on Osasuna at La Rosaleda this Sunday in a Last 32 first-leg tie, and former Espanyol and Sevilla player Sanchez believes they will take heart from last week’s 1-1 draw at high-flying Villarreal.

“We give equal importance to the League and the Copa del Rey, both are important. We’re focusing on one game at a time, the next being against Osasuna, so it’s a big match.

“Even so, we need to adapt to playing the Cup match on Sunday and will be doing our best to play as well as possible.

“We felt really positive after the Villarreal game, which we’ll try and replicate with the same intensity this coming weekend,” the 27-year-old told a Press conference.

Although Malaga have struggled in La Liga over the past couple of months, Sanchez believes the young players in the team will ensure a better second half to the season.
“The Club has a lot of faith in the young talent, with the mid to long-term objective being to develop and improve them, even though it may be a bit of a risk.

“As the season progresses, however, the younger players will get better and better,” he declared.
