Madrid prepare without Ronaldo

Real Madrid continued preparations for their Copa del Rey fixture this weekend without Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese is suspended for the two legs of Madrid’s Round of 32 clash with Olimpic Xativa, having been sent off in last year’s final defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Subsequently, the 28-year-old, who has missed Los Blancos’ last two fixtures with a hamstring complaint, has so far missed training this week, permitted leave yesterday and today by Carlo Ancelotti, which he has spent back in Madeira.

Ancelotti has at today’s morning session at Valdebebas worked with 20 players available to him, with Fabio Coentrao still recovering from a hamstring injury, Raphael Varane working in the gym and Sami Khedira in Germany beginning his rehabilitation after knee surgery.

Madrid travel out to Olimpic on Saturday evening for a 10pm local time kick-off.
