Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that former Atletico Madrid man Diego won’t be joining the Saints.
The current Wolfsburg playmaker insisted himself that the south coast club were interested in his services last month.
But the Argentine tactician has revealed that is not the case.
“Of course we know of him, as we know of any other players,” Pochettino told the Daily Echo.
“But that piece of news doesn't make any sense, because Southampton is not interested in him.
“We have also seen this news in Spanish media, so I don't really know where these rumours come from.”
Atletico Madrid are said to be keen on resigning the Brazil international after his successful loan spell back in 2011/12.
