‘I felt tired’ admits Rakitic

Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic admitted after his side’s 1-1 Europa League draw with Estoril that fatigue played a part.

Unai Emery’s side took an early lead through a Kevin Gameiro goal but had to settle for a share of the spoils when Ruben Fernandes equalised on 89 minutes, although the Andalusians have already qualified for the next stage.

“I’m pleased we are through but I still want to finish first in the group. However, I think the accumulation of games took its toll and I noticed some tiredness, at least on my part,” the Croatian admitted to reporters.

“Estoril also pressed us and at times it looked like American Football as the ball was always launched forward. To concede a late goal hurt, but we’ll just have to get our heads up.”

Sevilla’s final group game is against Freiburg and former Schalke player Rakitic says he is looking forward to it.

“It’s a very nice stadium which is also near to my house, although right now me must focus on our next game against Granada and try to win in the League away from home.”
