Ibra ‘doesn’t need Ballon d’Or’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said that he ‘doesn’t need the Ballon d’Or to know’ that he is ‘the best’ player in the world.

The Paris Saint-Germain man has been overlooked in recent years for the award and is set to once more miss out this year, with Franck Ribery, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi seen as likely to make the voting’s three-man shortlist.

For the Swede, though, he does not value the significance of winning the award or not.

“For some it is important,” Ibrahimovic has mused to reporters this week.

“But for me I do not care. It is a trophy that I do not need to know that I am the best.

“It matters more to some players.

“It is not something that I think about and it is not something that is important for me.”
