‘La Real must go for the win’

Jokin Aperribay has mused on Real Sociedad’s trip to Shakhtar Donetsk, refusing to label it a final, but admitting that the team ‘must go for the win’.

La Real have to take home the three points from this fifth matchday of the Champions League group stages in Ukraine and also hope that Manchester United defeat Bayer Leverkusen in the other Group A match to keep alive hopes of making the Last 16.

Defeat or a draw would completely eliminate the Basques from European football for the season.

“We go to a difficult field and face an experienced team that last year progressed from the group stage, but we are hoping to win,” club President Aperribay has mused this week.

“We shall see, if we have some luck, which we have lacked in the first three games, whether we can get a good result.

“Is this a final? Not for what it represents nor what it means to the fans or club, but it is importance because we would reach the last matchday still competitive against Bayer Leverkusen.

“Let’s see if we can adapt to the cold and win.

“We have to go for the win, it is the only result and we have to take our chances that we create. They also have some obligation to win and tomorrow it could be elimination for both of the teams.

“La Real looks good. We had a bad run, but we have gone the last month, month-and-a-half playing well, with good results, and we shall see if we can achieve a first victory in Europe.”
