Ronaldo, Varane miss Gala clash

Cristiano Ronaldo missed today’s training for Real Madrid and, alongside Raphael Varane, will miss the midweek meeting with Galatasaray.

The Portuguese was seen as a doubt for the Champions League group stage clash this Wednesday after picking up a hamstring injury in the weekend win at Almeria.

On from missing today’s session at Valdebebas, the player was confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti as out of the home clash with Gala.

Alongside the 28-year-old will be Raphael Varane, who is set for rest after returning trouble with his knee.

“Cristiano cannot play tomorrow,” confirmed Ancelotti to reporters today.

“He has a small problem and tomorrow he will start working in the field and we will see if he is available for Saturday.

“He is overloaded but there is confidence that he can play against Real Valladolid. This aside, he will not play in the Copa del Rey because he is suspended.

“Varane does not need surgery again. This has been ruled out by the medical staff. We are giving him 10-12 days off to make sure that his knee does not get inflamed.”

Meanwhile, full-back Marcelo is available for selection after recently returning to the main group for training.
