Athletic Bilbao are the latest club to be linked with a move for Arsenal’s Spanish international left-back Nacho Monreal.
Valencia and Granada were reported this week as being interested in the former Osasuna and Malaga defender and, according to Sport, the Basques are now ready to join them.
The 27-year-old has seen his chances at the Emirates limited this term following the return to fitness of England man Kieran Gibbs and Bilbao are keen to take him to San Mames, having drawn up a three-man shortlist that includes Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta and Raul Garcia of Atletico Madrid.
Monreal moved to Arsenal last January and made 10 Premier League starts last term, but may be open to a move back to La Liga.
His inability to force his way into Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up could see his plans of a place in the Spain squad for next year’s World Cup scuppered unless his gets regular first-team football.
