Ronaldo subbed as precaution

Initial reports indicate that Cristiano Ronaldo came off early in Real Madrid’s win at Almeria as a precaution.

The Portuguese appeared in discomfort early into the second half of Madrid’s eventual 5-0 win at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos on Saturday night and requested to be substituted, after voluntarily coming off the field of play.

Replaced by Jese Rodriguez, the 28-year-old walked down the tunnel with medical staff, but initial reports indicate that the move was more as a precautionary measure.

Ronaldo, who opened the scoring on Saturday night to follow up his recent form with Portugal in midweek, is seen to have been suffering with discomfort in his left hamstring, after an action in attempting a left-footed cross.

Carlo Ancelotti has commented post-match to indicate that the issue is only minor too and that the club ‘expect him to return soon’.
