Uche hopeful of Nigeria call

Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche is hoping to break back into the Nigeria squad after nine months in the international wilderness.

The 29-year-old last represented the Super Eagles during their successful African Nations Cup campaign back in February, yet has subsequently been overlooked by boss Stephen Keshi.

However, with Nigeria having now booked their place in next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil, he is desperate to get himself back into the reckoning with some eye-catching performances in La Liga.

“I'll see what I can do here. If I do well at Villarreal then I’ll get my chance but in the end it's up to the national team Coach to decide. I'm focused on my daily work and know that I will have opportunities,”

he told football411.com.

Uche, who has scored four times this season as the Yellow Submarine have climbed to fourth in the table, is determined to capitalise on his team’s impressive start.

“I have to keep up the same work and goals, which is what is asked of me. I’m scoring and want to carry on doing that.

“However, the main thing is to think about the team and continuing to get good results, which we have done in recent weeks.”
