Monreal to make shock La Liga return?

Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal is in line for a shock return to La Liga in a bid to cement a place in Spain’s World Cup squad.

Sports Direct News claims to have learned that the former Osasuna and Malaga player is interesting both Valencia and Granada, having been forced to play a bit-part role at the Emirates Stadium this season.

The Spanish international only joined the Gunners last January after regular left-back Kieran Gibbs faced a lengthy spell out with injury and Andres Santos was on the verge of leaving the club. However, Gibbs is now fully recovered and Monreal, 27, has struggled to win a place in Arsene Wenger’s side.

As a result, he is fully aware that a prolonged period of inactivity would seriously jeopardise his chances of making Vicente del Bosque’s La Roja squad for Brazil next summer.

Even so, the Gunners would likely resist any enquiries as they are understood to regard him as an essential part of their squad.
