Xavi picks up hamstring strain

Barcelona have confirmed that Xavi Hernandez has picked up a hamstring strain, although a recovery period is not specified.

The midfielder was omitted from the Spain squad to face Equatorial Guinea and South Africa this international break, but has sustained an injury that leaves him a doubt for the weekend encounter with Granada.

Xavi, who has been working to a specified routine when training in recent days, again worked separately from the rest of the group today, with his club confirming that tests have shown he has picked up a hamstring strain.

Whilst there is no tear in the muscle, Barca report that the player’s availability for coming fixtures will be determined by the injury’s recovery.

Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas has returned to full training after a week recovering from a strained knee ligament, whilst Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique have continued working on the sidelines.
