‘Khedira is a great recoverer’

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has been described by one former doctor as ‘an extremely good recoverer’, amid hopes of returning for the World Cup.

The Germany international is out of action for up to six months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Italy on Friday.

However, he has the optimism of former team doctor Raymond Best on his side. The duo were together at Stuttgart before Khedira’s move to Madrid.

“I saw him through many injuries and I know this – Sami is an extremely good recoverer,” Best told Stuttgarter Zeitung this week.

“He has always dealt with injury calmly and has always been very professional in rehabilitation. In this regard, he has the best chances.

“The World Cup? Realistically there is a long way to go. Half the year, the estimated recovery, and it means that he won’t be in the best shape by then.

“This will be only down to him, ideally, once he does not have to worry about the knee, then he can gear towards returning to playing competitively.

“But he will lack half a year of match practice. This is what must be considered.”
