Hugo Almeida is the latest to back international colleague Cristiano Ronaldo and call FIFA President Sepp Blatter’s recent comments ‘disrespectful’.
Blatter was caught on camera recently talking of his ‘preference’ for Lionel Messi, impersonating Ronaldo and labelling him a ‘commander’.
“The Portuguese Federation and several of our players have already commented on this issue,” began Almeida to reporters this week.
“It was a lack of respect for Cristiano and Portugal. He is a great player and a great teammate. This has been a lack of respect.
“For Cristiano everything has been discussed. With what he does, both in the national team and at Real Madrid, he proves he is one of the best in the world. For me, he is the best.
“I thought he was going to win the Ballon d’Or last year, but it was not to be. This year he has responded very well and I think that he will win.”
