Aguero: Messi the best ever

Sergio Aguero has mused on Lionel Messi’s ‘added responsibility’ with Argentina, how he and his teammates look to help and on life at Manchester City.

The former Atletico Madrid man spoke this week to Argentine publication Ole and considered his international colleague’s bid for a fifth consecutive Ballon d’Or.

“We are talking about the best ever, and he will remain so,” reflected Aguero on the Barcelona forward.

“So, we all have to give our best and one day hope for that big reward.

“In that way Leo carries more weight with the national team because the whole world is watching him and has expectations.

“I am here to help him and the team, to not feel all of the responsibility. We have to divide it among several of us.

“In the national side we have Leo, but from the goalkeeper to the other nine outfield players, they are all equal.

“We all have to give our best. We are a team. Then, Pipa, Leo, Fideo or I can do something for our quality, then we do so and make a difference. But if we are not all together then it is very difficult.”

Aguero continues to be linked with a return to Spain in the future, but has made clear he is happy in England.

“By being so far, you can develop your concentration and refine your technique. In that way you have to learn every day. And I feel I have enough to learn.

“I am happy there. The club treats me very well. I’m very calm. It’s different to being in Spain or Argentina.

“All I do is enjoy my football, rest, stay at home. I can go for a walk or out for a meal in total peace. For a player or someone who is well known, it is important to have a clear head.”
