Diego Costa has been in the gym all weekend in the hope that he will be fit for Atletico Madrid’s match with Getafe next Saturday.

The striker pulled an abductor muscle in his thigh last week which meant he had to miss his Spain debut against Equatorial Guinea on Saturday.

But whilst the national team were in Malabo, the goalscorer was back in the Spanish capital working hard to be fit for the game against the Azulones on November 23.

Diego Simeone’s men only want him to play if he’s 100 per cent however, so will miss out if there are any doubts surrounding his fitness.

Diego Costa is also likely to sit out the trip to Zenit St Petersburg the following Tuesday as a precautionary measure, given that the Rojiblancos have already sealed their Champions League qualification.
