Javier Zanetti has reflected that before being given the captain’s armband at Inter, he was close to joining Real Madrid.
The 40-year-old has held the armband for the Nerazzurri since 1999, but has revealed that before taking it, he was in talks with Madrid over a transfer.
“I was about to leave, for a very important team in Spain, such as Real Madrid,” Zanetti has reflected this week to Videonews.
“But if I had to leave, I wanted to leave a mark for Inter.
“Then I was given the captain’s armband and it was a beautiful responsibility.
“Everything that came after that was something extraordinary.”
