Djukic: We have been resolute

Miroslav Djukic praised his Valencia side for their ‘resolute’ attitude in ‘always looking for the win’ against St Gallen.

Los Che ran out 3-2 winners in Switzerland thanks to two goals from Pablo Piatti and a late winner from Sergio Canales to mathematically assure progression from Group A of the Europa League with two games remaining.

“We have been resolute against a very good opponent, we knew it was not going to be easy,” Djukic considered post-match.

“We knew the opponent was going to hold players in defence and that we would have to use the wings and in the end the goals have come.

“We have looked for the win at all times, with a good mentality. We knew that if we won that we were very close to the classification and the team did a good job.”

One notable performer was Pablo Piatti, who has otherwise struggled in La Liga for playing time under Djukic.

“Piatti is increasingly more confident and doing things better, I am sure he will continue to improve and regain his confidence.”

President Amadeo Salvo reiterated this week that Djukic will stay through the season no matter what.

“From day one I have believed everything that the President has said and I personally want to say things with the results and the play of the team.

“That is what I want to be my warranty. The President is supporting our work, this is key to helping the coaching staff.

“All my life I have depended on results, I want to restore confidence to the President with good results and a good game.”
