Adriano: We’re close to excellence

Adriano has mused on how he believes Barcelona are ‘close to excellence’ but that they have a few aspects of play still to improve upon.

Debate has surrounded the Catalans’ start to the season, not for their unbeaten form, but for their style of play and increased possession and chances seemingly afforded to their opponent.

“We want to play much better than we have been. But we also want to keep adding wins,” considered Adriano at a publicity event this week.

“We believe there is a little to go to achieve excellence, to feel much more comfortable.

“We need to improve our possession of the ball. There are moments when we lose possession.

“We should also avoid counter-attacks and be more successful with our final ball.

“We can achieve excellence and hopefully very soon.”

The Brazilian is enjoying an extended run in the first team at left-back, in Jordi Alba’s absence through injury.

“I approach competition normally. It’s a shame to have two injuries back to back, like Jordi has had.

“We’re always encouraging him. I know what it’s like, because it’s happened to me and I talk to Jordi a lot.”

Adriano was asked of his hopes of going to the World Cup next summer.

“It is unfortunate that in recent squads I have not been called up, but if I remain consistent then hopefully I will return.

“It’s what I want and in order to go I need to continue doing a good job at Barca. The Brazil World Cup really excited me and I’ll do everything I can to be called up.”
