Xavi Hernandez has reflected that Barcelona’s philosophy ‘to play good football’ is ‘intact’, even as he sees ‘room for improvement’.
The Catalans booked their place in the Last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday evening with a 3-1 win over Milan, but with the Italians enjoying a number of half-chances at 2-1 before Lionel Messi’s second late on secured it.
“I’m happy for the win over everything else,” Xavi has considered to reporters afterwards.
“We played a good game that became complicated when at 2-1, but I think this has been a good Barca. Milan has had more belief, but I think that we are improving and that the objective is still to play well and get the results.
“The philosophy is to play good football and that is still intact. From there, to win.
“We are asked for much from the fans and here remarkable is not enough. What serves is excellence. We have room for improvement.
“Do we lack something? It is hard because there is also an opponent who is closed off at the back, that does not give us space, that gives us the wings.
“They covered most of the creative area, but we still found spaces. There is room for improvement, but we felt good.
“Messi? He looked good. There is always room for improvement of course but the bar is so high that when he does not score for two games he is said to be bad.
“Messi has been like the team, there is room for improvement.”
