Atletico Madrid have today announced that Diego Godin has become the latest squad member to commit to a new long-term contract.
Los Colchoneros have recently signed Oliver Torres, Javier Manquillo, Koke Resurreccion, Juanfran Torres and Arda Turan to new contracts and today add to that list their Uruguayan international centre-back.
“The truth is that I am happy, happy because I will continue here for many years and as I always say, this is my home,” Godin has commented in an interview with the club’s official site, having signed on until June 2018.
“I’m far from home, the all the family and friends here make me feel great. And what better place to be than here, with good friends, with people who work to make you feel like one of them.
“I am proud, happy and content to have renewed. The club is trying to keep the base of this team together, fortunately we are giving a lot of joy.
“Not only with results, which ultimately is the most important thing, but also with titles and with performance, with a good feeling, with a spectacular group that we demonstrate every day.
“We are forming a strong group, solid, together, hard working and build on solidarity. I think this is not achieved so easily.
“It is a club that is showing seriousness, wanting to continue with this project, both with all the guys who are renewing and with the Coach, who was the first to take the initiative and extend.
“And I think this is good for everyone, especially for the club.”
