‘Diego Costa saga isn’t good for anyone’

Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran believes that the Diego Costa affair is ‘not good for anyone’.

The striker has been the subject of an international tug-of-war between Spain and Brazil recently, and the right-back has claimed that the saga is in no way a positive.

“Diego’s chilled out,” he told AS. “Everything happening around him is not good for Spain, not good for Brazil, not good for Diego Costa and not good for [Brazil Coach] Scolari.

“I think we all have to calm down. When he feels the time is right, he will make his decision. We have to respect that, whatever it is.

“I hope he goes for Spain, that’s what I’d like, and I’ve told him that. Hopefully everything will work out OK, the way he wants, and his decision will be respected. That’s the most important thing.”

Juanfran then commented on this weekend’s Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona, and also remarked on Atleti losing their 100 per cent record in the League last weekend against Espanyol.

“For us it’s important to beat Betis. In the Clásico what will happen, will happen.

“May the best team win. We all like to see great matches and I hope it will be one of those.

“The result, whatever it is, will only suit us if we win, so first we have to get the three points.

“The most important thing for me is being at the top in the final game. That would be the best thing in the world. It’s important for us to keep up our run this season.

“We’ve forgotten about the defeat against Espanyol, and winning again in the Champions League showed that. Now we want to go on another decent run of wins, and that starts with Betis. Hopefully we can stay at the top for a long time.”
