Mascherano: Goal my fault

Javier Mascherano took full responsibility for Barcelona conceding at Milan on Tuesday night, noting also that it isn’t the first mistake he has made.

The Argentine failed to clear the ball during a mix-up with Gerard Pique, to allow Robinho and Ricky Kaka to combine for Milan’s opening strike in this week’s Champions League Group H game.

With the result ending 1-1 thanks to Lionel Messi’s equaliser soon after, his compatriot was left looking to apologise.

“The goal is for my mistake, I believe it is my fault,” Mascherano conceded afterwards.

“It is another error, and I’ve already committed a couple and it hurts. I wanted to clear the ball but it bounced too high. In a match like this one you can’t commit these kind of errors.

“I never give excuses and unfortunately the team had to suffer. The result is what it is and it hurts. If we had won, the team wouldn’t have suffered.”
