‘Football only rewards goals’

Luis Enrique is confident that he can turn around Celta Vigo’s growing crisis, but admits that defeat to Levante has left them in a difficult position.

The Galicians were defeated at home on Monday evening for a fourth consecutive loss this term, leaving them second bottom in the table with just the one win to their name all season.

“If it is based only on the results, there is no cause for optimism,” mused Enrique afterwards.

“If it is based on what the team has shown, you can see the glass as half full or half empty. I see it as half full.

“I have two options – to think that we are going to turn this around, which is what I think, or to begin to give up.

“My team did everything to win the game. This is a sport that only rewards those who put the ball in the net and, in this case, in an isolated play, Levante have taken the three points.

“Unfortunately it is a movie that I already know. We did not win and the reality is that we have to deal with the situation in the table.”
