‘We’re obligated to talk to Costa’

Vicente del Bosque has intention to once more hear from Diego Costa on his national team preference, and he has also confirmed agreement on a contract.

With Brazil seen as still interested in using the Atletico Madrid striker themselves come next summer, Spain’s Football Federation are reported as seeking clarification from the player.

“We are obligated to have a conversation with him,” Del Bosque has reiterated on Television Espanola this week.

“He is in a difficult situation because Brazil also wants to have him and he has to decide.

“In the coming weeks he will decide.”

Reports this week have also centred on the RFEF’s intention to hand Del Bosque a new two-year contract to take him through to the European Championships of 2016.

“We have an agreement. We are moving along together great. I have appreciation for the national team, for the Federation and we are very happy, that’s the truth. We have an agreement.”

The Coach considered also the goalkeeping issue with the national team, which remains unresolved.

“We are working based on common sense. The sporting values of the three are obvious. Whoever would play would prove successful.

“Fewer minutes for Iker Casillas? We’ll see what happens in each situation.

“They are a group of three beyond 30 years. They are at an older age, but younger ones may also be involved, such as David de Gea, who is playing in a great team and who we have high hopes for.”

Spain head into next summer’s World Cup as defending champions and double European champions.

“It is difficult to defend the world title on another continent. The difficulty is increasing.

“My potential squad? It is always a slight to make a list because you stop have to stop calling someone else who may also deserve it. It is very difficult to please everyone.”

Early rumours have been that the team will prepare for the Brazilian climate with some work in Australia.

“I know nothing about that. I do not think so. We will surely prepare in Europe. Nobody has told me anything about that.”
