Raul Garcia open to renewal

Raul Garcia says that he would happily renew his contract with Atletico Madrid, but indicated that there is no news on that front right now.

The midfielder is into the final year of his current deal at the Vicente Calderon with speculation now focused on whether he will renew in the coming weeks.

“There are those leading these discussions, yet I have said nothing, I am looking to always work the same way and I am a little removed from this,” Garcia has mused to reporters today.

“When something is closed I will talk. I’m very comfortable here and integrated, things are going well and I arrived everything has been better.

“I’m going through a nice time and if the club want it, I am happy to stay.”

The midfielder turned his attention towards this weekend’s League trip to Espanyol, which will be Coach Diego Simeone’s 100th game in charge.

“On Saturday we have a big game against an opponent who we are well aware of, they are in a great stadium and there are old acquaintances with Simao and Javier Aguirre.

“We are going there to win and afterwards we will be able to say hello to them.

“We have earned respect with the results, but that respect will not be there if we relax, that’s why we talk so much about going game by game.

“Simeone? The results speak for him. The Coach is doing very well and hopefully we will have him here for more than just 100 games but for many more.”
