Moreno: Atletico game our chance

Hector Moreno feels the game with Atletico Madrid at the weekend is a chance for his Espanyol team to get back on track.

Javier Aguirre’s team were unbeaten in the first five games of the 2013-14 campaign but have since suffered three successive defeats.

However, Moreno, who hopes to return after injury, believes the fixture at Cornella El-Prat against La Liga’s joint-leaders is a ‘wonderful opportunity’ to halt the slide.

“I feel good and am happy to be back training with the main group after over a week working separately.

“I’m really hopeful of starting this match because it’s a wonderful opportunity to reverse the run of games without a win, and it’s also against opponents who come here in very good form,” he told a Press conference.

The Mexican centre-back revealed he always approaches these type of matches in the same way.

“It’s extra special because of the atmosphere generated. For the supporters and the Press it’s a great occasion and a chance for us to make our mark.

“Diego Costa will come here showing the same level he has been at since he was with Rayo, but I hope to make things difficult for him or anyone else,” added Moreno, before talking about Espanyol’s European ambitions.

“I’ve always said this club deserves to be as high in the table as possible for everything, the fans, stadium, players…It has been my idea and mentality since I arrived here, to get the chance to be able to fight for Europe, and I’m not afraid to say that.

“The season is very long but when I see this team I have every confidence we will always be fighting for it.”

Asked about his future, the 25-year-old insisted he is enjoying life at Espanyol.

“I’m happy here and have a three-year contract. I’m delighted with the club, living here in Barcelona, and also my teammates, which is the most important thing,” he concluded.
