Summer of change at Villarreal – Roig

Villarreal President Fernando Roig has admitted it looks like being a summer of change at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

With European qualification in the bag, the sale of Cedric Bakambu to Beijing Guoan for a reported €38m in the winter transfer market and Rodri being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid for around €24m, means the Yellow Submarine will have the financial muscle to spend big in the transfer market.

Italians Nicola Sansone and Roberto Soriano could also depart for substantial fees and Roig confirmed there would be several movements both in and out of the club.

“It will be a summer with lots of movement, I think so, and we will have to make some adjustments,” Roig [pictured, right] is quoted as saying by Marca.

“If there are important offers for players there could be some that will leave, but we’ll wait for La Liga to finish before we finalise any operations.

“The objective is to have an economic balance between incomings and outgoings, as always.”

Roig was reluctant to comment on the imminent €20m signing of Gerard Moreno from Espanyol, but did not deny a deal was likely to be done.

“We could have some transfer operations that have never occurred before at Villarreal because football is becoming inflated. Moreno? I know we are going to strengthen the team with some important players.

“This year some operations have gone well and some haven’t, such as with Ruben Semedo [who was arrested and charged with attempted murder and robbery in February this year] but the sale of Bakambu was good as it gives us more possibilities now.

“We’ve had an excellent season and qualified for Europe for a fifth successive year, but the fans should know that we start from scratch again,” he warned.
