Zuniga on Barca agenda

Barcelona are reported to be planning a move for Napoli defender Juan Camilo Zuniga in the January transfer window.

A report in Sport claims the Catalans have been tracking the 27-year-old Colombian international for some time as they seek to strengthen their defence over the winter, and Zuniga possesses the qualities Barca boss Tata Martino admires in a defender as he has the ability to play in both full-back positions and can also operate further forward.

However, several other top European clubs are believed to be hot on the trail of the player, including Juventus and Inter, although Zuniga himself, aware of Barca’s interest, has insisted on a clause in his new contract with Napoli that would allow him to leave for €15m if La Blaugrana wanted to sign him.

Barca are especially keen to sort out their right-back situation before the end of this season, particularly since Martin Montoya is yet to pen a new deal despite ongoing negotiations and Dani Alves is expected to receive some lucrative offers after next year’s World Cup, regardless of the fact he has a contract at the Camp Nou until 2015.
