Scolari drops Costa hint

Luiz Felipe Scolari has suggested that Diego Costa may still be in his plans to represent Brazil at the World Cup next summer.

The Atletico Madrid striker has been seen as on the verge of opting to represent Spain at international level, despite having already played twice for the Selecao in friendlies earlier this year.

However, reports this week have been that the player has yet to officially request consideration from the Spanish Football Federation and that the RFEF are having to push their Brazilian counterparts to release certification that he is eligible for La Roja.

On from this, Brazil’s head Coach has hinted that Costa may still be in his plans for his country of birth come next summer.

“I am the Coach of the Brazilian national team and I will select my players next May, when the list of those called for the World Cup will be released,” Scolari told reporters on Friday.

“I will make the call as to my own criteria and my own observations. All Brazilian players have a chance. My project is that, my job is that.

“Whoever is Brazilian and fulfils the legal conditions to be called up, can be summoned. The rest is just frills and stories.”

Scolari was asked of reports in Spain that he would be flying out to Madrid to try and convince the player to stick with the Selecao.

“The Spanish know nothing and are inventing a lot of things.”
