Granero to undergo Friday operation

Real Sociedad midfielder Esteban Granero will today undergo surgery on the cruciate ligament damage he suffered three weeks ago.

The former Getafe and Real Madrid player, who is on loan at Anoeta from Queens Park Rangers until the end of this season, was stretchered off in the closing stages of the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk on September 18.

Granero’s operation will be performed at the Mikel Sanchez clinic in Vitoria and the club are expected to make a statement on the player’s condition afterwards, although initial reports were that the player could be out of action for around six months.

La Real boss Jagoba Arrasate has seen several members of his squad succumb to injuries this term, with Diego Ifran out long-term and Xabi Prieto, David Zurutuza and Dani Estrada all having struggled with various ailments.
